Growth in the garden beds

Each week or so, when there are noticeable changes, I will be posting garden development pictures to track progress and eventually share recipes using all thefresh, local, organic ingredients at my fingertips, literally.

Lettuce is growing well, and which self-seeded from last year’s plantings.  My husband and I were surprised to find it growing, especially because it ‘jumped’ to a different planting bed, so it was a complete surprise.  Red and green leaf lettuce grows in this bed along with a tomato plant (see inverted cone), a broccoli plant, chives, garlic chives, and green beans at the ‘tee-pee’ end of the bed, built by my husband for the bean stalks to climb.

Strawberries are forming now replacing the little white flowers which first appear in the early stages. These as well as the lettuce bed were screened in to keep out little critters, including Fernando, one of our two kitties, who has taken a liking to the green leaf lettuce.

Cone towers were added to the tomato bed as they are still on the shorter side, but will grow well into these and be supported once they reach 4 feet or taller toward harvest time.

And then there is the randomly seeded blackberry bush that appeared this year after a bunch of it that was growing along the
back fence was trimmed back in order to install new fencing.  And now, my husband planted three blueberry bushes along this new fence.

 .

As you are starting to learn, my husband is the green thumb and has incredible passion for all things gardening.
So together, we are able to create garden to kitchen goodness all summer long.
